Knuthenborg Safari Park

Last Friday we went to a safari park on one of the southern islands here in Denmark. We went with our friends, Mogens and Lene and their daughter, Julie(21 months). We had a picnic in the playground part of the park which was a big mistake because Jonas and Max were too distracted to eat. The park is huge so you have to drive to all the animals. There are parts of the park where you are not allowed to get out of your car and other parts where you can get out and pet the animals. In the tiger section, you have to drive into a caged area where they shut the gate behind you and then open the gate in front of you. One of the tigers(the tiger pictured here) we saw was resting on a tree stump or something. Mogens and Lene were in front of us in their car. Max accidentally hit the horn and at the same time Mogens was moving Julie over to his lap. Well, the tiger didn't like this and got down from his resting spot and charged over to Mogens' car! Believe it or not, Mogens had the window down and couldn't get it up! Luckily, he drove forward because the tiger was coming straight for the window. The tiger was so mad that he made a few scratches on Mogens' car! Not the best souvenir to take home from the park but it was exciting!
In the monkey section, you have to get in wagons that are fully covered with plexi-glass. You used to be able to drive in but the monkeys were damaging the cars. They give you bits of food to pour into the holes that go out to the monkeys. The monkeys, of course, know this so they jump up on the sides of the wagons and hold their hands under the holes. They were quite entertaining!
Jonas made a friend!

I think these are lemurs. Julie wanted to get up close and personal with them.
Just relaxing....
Zebras are so beautiful. Wish we could have been closer to them but they are in the "stay in your car" part of the park.

The rhinos were fighting a little with the zebras so the jeep was pushing them away.

The donkeys were so sweet. I think these 2 were hungry because they were chewing on the windows and mirrors. Max loved them!
Jonas wasn't afraid to get right up to them. He and Max are big animal lovers, thanks to Basso!
Jonas fell asleep 2 minutes after we left.

Max was tired but didn't fall asleep-unfortunately!

I love hearing Max speak Danish. He is such a sweet boy. Can't believe how friendly those two donkies were. Looks like a great time.
